The unique system has been developed by fit expert, Dr Andy Pruitt PA, of the Boulder Centre for Sports Medicine in the US. With over 30 years experience in helping World Champions, Tour de France winners and cyclist of all level enjoy riding any style of bike, Andy Pruitt has developed a fit System that enables the fitter to analyse an individual's needs and adjust their bike based on their unique body characteristics, experience level and cycling goals to maximise comfort and performance - ultimately improving the experience of the riders.
Why is a BG Fit important?
A BG F.I.T. session can help all types of cyclists ride longer, faster and in greater comfort. This is achieved through adjustments to your bicycle and your position on that bicycle.
We are all very different in height, shapes, sizes, have varying degrees of flexibility and other anatomical differences. These sometimes small differences are multiplied by the time you spend on a bicycle and repetition involved in cycling. Simple tasks like pedalling and handlebar position become even more critical for longer rides or intense effort. These are a few reasons why we can all benefit from a personal fit system by a trained BG F.I.T. technician.
The BG Fit Process:
1. Pre-Fit Interview: Every fit - whether it's for a novice or experienced cyclist- starts with a brief interview between a trained technician and rider that addresses the individual's injury history, needs and goals.
2. Flexibility Assessment: This evaluation gains an accurate picture of the individual's flexibility and other physical attributes, including assessment of foot structure, knee position, spinal curve, shoulder extension, hip flexion and leg length, among others.
3. Side View: Assessed using the side view of the rider, the goal is to deliver a correct neutral position that's both powerful and comfortable through adjustments to seat height, handlebar height, stem length and cleat position.
4. Front View: Analysis from frontal view to optimize hip, knee and foot alignment for greater performance and balanced power delivery, includes analysis of pedal and shoe placement and to align rider squarely on the saddle.
5. Follow-Up: After a week or so, the technician calls to discuss the effectiveness of the adjustments and to answer any other questions or concerns the rider may have.
BG Shoes:
Our shoes offer unparalleled performance and more rider benefits than any other cycling shoe. That’s a big claim, but we stand behind it because we design our shoes based on medical testing.
The foot is naturally canted for walking and running but that same angulation on a bike can cause rotation of the knee/shin/foot making the foot collapse. This reduces efficiency and can cause knee strain. A Varus Wedge built into the outsole of our Body Geometry shoes gives the foot a 1.5mm angle to compensate for its natural tilt, giving better alignment for increased efficiency and comfort.
BG Footbeds:
Medically tested Body Geometry footbeds were co-developed with Andy Pruitt, Director of the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine, to enable a semi-custom fit that improves efficiency, increases comfort and reduces potential injury.
Features:
By standing on the Specialized Arch-O-Meter, a rider can determine the optimum level of foot contour:
+ Red = minimal contours (this is our stock body geometry footbed with longitudinal arch & metatarsal button support. Same footbed in all our performance shoes. Same footbed we have used since 2000) = for people with flat foot.
++ Blue = moderate (slightly higher longitudinal arch & metatarsal button) = for people with flat to standard arch.
+++ Green = significant support = for people with standard or high arches.
By combining the correct contour insole with an appropriate amount of BG Shims, the rider can alter forefoot angle to optimize biomechanical foot/knee/hip alignment. Body Geometry Technology.
BG Saddles:
All Body Geometry saddles have been developed with Dr. Roger Minkow and medically tested to be the most comfortable and anatomically correct in the world for all day riding comfort. Through fitting thousands of riders in our BG Fit process, we’ve developed a wide range of saddle sizes and shapes designed to optimize a rider’s position on the bike, based on body type and sit bone width. A saddle of proper width supports a rider on the ischial tuberosities, or sit bones, to relieve pressure on soft tissue, improving blood flow and reducing hot spots.
Gloves:
Designed in conjunction with ergonomics specialist Dr. Roger Minkow, our BG road and mountain gloves are scientifically proven to reduce numbness in the hands. This results in maximum comfort and control with minimal fatigue, no matter what type of terrain you ride.
